About the Role

As a Laboratory Assistant, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day operations of our busy lab. From handling patient samples and booking test requests to supporting scientific staff with technical tasks, your contribution will help ensure accurate and timely diagnostics for patients across the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

Reception & Specimen Handling

  • Book patient details and test requests into the pathology system
  • Receive and prepare specimens for testing
  • Handle enquiries from healthcare professionals and patients
  • Provide authorised results and manage departmental communications

Laboratory Support

  • Prepare reagents and safely dispose of hazardous waste
  • Maintain lab cleanliness and equipment
  • Monitor and replenish stock levels

Scientific & Technical Assistance

  • Prepare samples and assist with automated analysis
  • Enter test results and support quality control processes
  • Participate in equipment evaluations and accreditation documentation

What We’re Looking For

  • UK Proven lab experience ideally within sample reception
  • Biomedical science degree or similar
  • A methodical and reliable approach to work
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow protocols and work as part of a team
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including unsocial shifts
