About the Role

In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive administrative support to ensure the smooth running of all pathology reporting processes. You’ll work closely with medical and laboratory colleagues, helping to ensure accurate, timely, and confidential handling of clinical information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing pathology reports by accurately entering clinical and specimen details into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Providing secretarial support to medical and laboratory staff, including drafting letters and circulating emails
  • Managing routine and complex telephone, email, fax, and face‑to‑face enquiries from staff, patients, and relatives
  • General clerical duties including filing, photocopying, printing, postal tasks, and confidential waste management
  • Monitoring and maintaining office equipment (printers, fax machines, photocopiers) and using digital dictation systems
  • Booking in laboratory referrals on LIMS and ensuring timely presentation of cases to pathologists
  • Using LIMS to monitor backlog lists, audit missing information, and sign off reports
  • Assisting with preparation for weekly multidisciplinary team meetings by retrieving reports, slides, images, and other clinical information

Ideal Candidate

  • Proven Medical Secretary experience ideally within Histology
  • Audio Typing speed of 60 wpm
  • Confident computer user
  • Strong organisational and basic numeracy skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • Clear and accurate communication skills (verbal, written, electronic)
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently
  • Able to manage messages and tasks accurately and promptly
